Mālama honua is both a directive to take care of our Island Earth and a deeply rooted concept formed of the collective truths necessary for a sustainable relationship between people and the resources of their environment. Interestingly, the balance or imbalance of these influences has a great deal to do with the collective actions that create a sustainable or unsustainable canoe, island or planet.
